Critical Illness Cover is designed to pay a lump sum after a valid claim for a condition listed in the policy. It does not cover every illness or every diagnosis. The policy defines which conditions and severity levels qualify, and exclusions or waiting periods may apply.
Conditions commonly considered include certain cancers, heart attacks and strokes, but the precise definitions vary by insurer and policy. Some policies provide different benefits for less severe conditions. Check the wording, cover amount, term, premium and any exclusions before choosing cover. MoneyHelper explains how Critical Illness Cover works.
