Historical archive: this article originally discussed the UK Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) increase that took effect in November 2015. The old promise that a consumer could “beat” the rise, its premium examples and its car-insurance sales advice were not current and have been removed. This page does not offer a general-insurance quote.
What changed at the time?
HMRC’s historical record shows that the standard IPT rate moved from 6% to 9.5% on 1 November 2015. Rates changed again after that date, so the 2015 figure must not be used to understand today’s premium. For current rates and exemptions, consult HMRC’s Insurance Premium Tax rates.
Compare the full terms of a policy
Tax is only one element of a general-insurance price. If you are arranging cover through an authorised provider, compare the cover, exclusions, excess, payment terms and total cost shown in a current quotation. Answer the provider’s questions accurately. No saving can be promised from this historical article.
IM-Insured’s current public product guidance is focused on protection and private medical insurance. Start at the homepage for those routes; this archived tax article is not an active car- or home-insurance application.
